Botox – WRINKE CORRECTION
The use of botox has become one of the most frequently applied methods in aesthetic medicine and surgery. It was used for many years in ophthalmology for correction of the so called blepharospasm or shrinking of eyelids. Botox is actually a very strong toxin of bacteria Clostridium botulinum, synthetically prepared. Application of small doses in the muscle leads to muscle paralysis.
Botox is applied in certain areas of the frontal muscle, where we can find deep horizontal wrinkles, and in some of the muscles between the eyebrows where they form vertical and horizontal wrinkles, which gives the face worried or angry expression. It is also applied in the side part of the orbicular muscle which may cause many deep wrinkles on the side of eyes by its excessive activity.
Selective application of botox changes the dynamics of the forehead muscle which leads to smoothing of the horizontal wrinkles between the eyebrows and on the sides of the eyes. Result is refreshing look of the face.
Sometimes the so called fillers such as hiyalouronic acid or polyglycolic acid (Restylen, New Fill- Sculptura) (link to Fillers) are applied with botox. They may be applied to extremely deep wrinkles between the eyebrows to enhance the effect of botox. The effect is visible three days after the application and lasts for 5 to 6 months. They should be repeated after that.
