Physiological ageing process doesn’t affect everybody in the same way. Some people are by their facial features, lifestyle or genetic background more prone to ageing.  Skin loses its elasticity and consistency with time, especially in the eyelids area where it is thin.  Eyelids slowly change their appearance and form excess skin bags, furrow and fatty pads which make the skin look old and tired.

Excess skin and fatty pads on the eyelids can be removed only by surgical procedure – BLEPHAROPLASTY. If necessary, excess skin and fatty pads can be removed from upper and lower eyelids. Unfortunately, cosmetic  treatments  cannot help in these cases.

Blepharoplasty is considered as minor aesthetic procedures, but very efficient. It is performed by experienced aesthetic surgeon, and it doesn’t bring any higher risk for the patient. Excess skin and fatty pads are removed following the precise drawings that the surgeon made before the surgery.  During the preoperative preparation, Dr.Toncic is marking the eyelids very carefully in order to remove the optimal amount of skin and fatty pads. This is the point where Dr.Toncic’s perfectionism is best shown. Surgeon must have a sense of proportion and shaping, same as in other fields of aesthetic surgery.

Dr.Toncic  uses radio surgery for the cosmetic correction of the eyelids, because this technology enables very precise incision without damaging the surrounding tissue. Therefore, aesthetic effect is optimal, and patient’s recovery much quicker.  In order to achieve the best aesthetic effect possible, surgeons use sutures that are as thin as human hair, and they put it below the skin layer, so there are no visible stitches.
Final result of the blefaroplasty is visible rejuvenation of the patient. The eye looks younger and bigger, which accentuates its natural beauty.
Blepharoplasty is often performed in combination with some other surgical procedures, especially facelift which is just like blepharoplasty – facial rejuvenation procedure.

USEFUL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PATIENTS:

Even though blepharoplasty is  a routine procedure for the surgical team headed by dr.Toncic, the performance of the procedure is done very carefully with special attention paid to the preoperative preparation of the patient.

Before the operation:
• Prior the surgery patient goes through a routine  preoperative analysis , which includes laboratory blood test analysis, examination and consultations in the clinic.
• Before the operation, surgical team has final conversation with the patient and last preoperative consultations. Also, surgeon is marking the areas for the optimal performance of the procedure.
• Before the operation patients must stop using painkillers and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, containing  acetylsalicylic  acid like Aspirin, Andol or Acisal. This is very important factor in patient’s preparation for the surgery, as in this way we prevent possible bleeding and hematoma during and after the procedure.
• Patients coming from abroad are enabled to do all preoperative examinations and consultations in one day as well as the surgery, and initial consultations over the phone or the internet.  During the initial consultations it is evaluated whether the patient is suitable at all for this type of intervention. Upon the patient's arrival in Zagreb, final preoperative consultation is being performed during which all the details of the intervention are being defined together with the patient, and then the surgical procedure can start.

Anesthesia and the procedure:
• Blepharoplasty is performed under enhanced local anesthetic. During the operation patient is asleep  so therefore the procedure is panless.
• The patient stays in the clinic for 6 hours. It takes about an hour for preoperative preparations, and around one and a half hours for the operation itself after which the patient rests. Once discharged from the surgery the patient is sent to home care.

Recovery
• Great success of the operations in Dr Toncic’s clinic is largely due not only to the experience of our surgical team, precise and enhanced techniques, but also to well organized professional postoperative care. Dr Toncic and his team insist on regular check ups and everyday contact with the patient, in order to be sure of the success of the operation and wellbeing of the patient.
• Postoperative recovery after blepharoplasty is individual, however it usually lasts for around 7 days. The stitches are removed 7 days after the surgery, and  patients can resume their personal and professional activities 10 days after the operation.
• Recommended stay in Zagreb after the blepharoplasty is 3 to 7 days.  Recommended check-up is fifth and seventh day after the surgery when also the stitches are being  removed.
