Slovenian Styria is situated between rivers Sava and Savinja in the west, the Sava river in the south, the Croatian border to the east, Mura in the northeast and the border with Austria to the north.
This area is predominantly mountainous and covered with forests. Mountains are getting lower to the east, first in a mountainous region the Slovenian hills (gorice) and then down into the Pannonian valley. Lower Sryria is known for the cultivation of grapes and the production of white wine.
The largest city of the Slovenian Styria and its economic center is Maribor. Major cities are also Celje, Ptuj and Velenje. Along with them there are also Laško, Sevnica, Slovenska Bistrica, Slovenske Konjice.
