Thalassotherapia Opatija is the leading center for cardiac rehabilitation in this region and one of the largest laboratories for functional non-invasive cardiac diagnosis.
Situated in Opatija, it was founded on the centuries old tradition in health tourism of Liburnia in 1957. As the Institute of Thalassotherapy. In 1981., Ministry of Health in Croatia decided to rename the Thalassotherapia Opatija from the Department of Thalassotherapy to Special hospital for the rehabilitation of heart, lungs and rheumatism .
In 1998. Thalassotherapia Opatija, the first and only institution in this country, gained the additional validation of becoming a Reference Centre for Healthcare Tourism and Medically Programmed Recreation for the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia.Polyclinic's fundamental internist and cardiac activity is closely interwined with the Laboratory for Functional Diagnostics and the departments od cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation, and also the department of physical medicine, rehabilitation and rheumatology, with the possibility to use modern facilities and equipment Thalasso Wellness fitness center, as well as dermatological and neurological activity whose services are available in the polyclinic, and a invaluable role in health care has also recently opened center for diabetes.
